cloud management

Cloud Management -Get to know its types, benefits, tools and much more.

Cloud management is the process of managing cloud computing services and products. The management of the cloud consists of all components that ensure the operation of the cloud, including users, applications, data, and other services. By measuring usage and costs, admins can monitor usage, make adjustments as needed, and access the resources they need. It is also the way admins maintain flexibility and scalability, while adapting to changes as quickly as possible.

Administrators can use cloud management tools to monitor all types of cloud and cloud activities, in short all cloud related matter, from data integration to Kubernetes to disaster recovery. Cloud administrators oversee the infrastructure, platforms, applications, resources, and data that form the cloud, including data and resources owned by cloud service providers.

Increasingly, information technology organizations are deploying their applications into cloud environments in order to reduce their upfront spending on IT infrastructure. Cloud computing environments provide organizations with the data storage and computing power they need to deal with high volumes of data and fluctuations or growing demands for application and service access. Currently, cloud computing services are deployed in three ways:

Private cloud

The service allows an organization to manage its cloud infrastructure on its own. An external organization or internal team can manage it. Private cloud systems offer more flexibility than public clouds when it comes storage and computing power for a variety of business applications. However, they are not manageable by organization itself that makes cloud computing an appealing economic model for maximizing IT infrastructure.

Public cloud

A public cloud is a group of services available over an open network which is accessible by public. A private company (for example, Google, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services) owns the IT infrastructure and the private individuals can purchase or rent the computing capacity or data storage as they desire.

Hybrid cloud

Hybrid cloud environments are nothing but a combination of public and private clouds owned by different providers. With the Hybrid cloud, organizations are allowed to store sensitive privileged data on private cloud thus making it 100% secure. In addition, company can utilize public cloud services at low cost for storing data that is less sensitive for the company on it. Basically, hybrid cloud environment is the result of connecting public cloud and private cloud environment together.

Cloud management: how does it operate?

Cloud environment is where cloud management software is deployed. Note: Virtual Machine (VM) is such cloud environment only. Cloud environment basically comprises of database and server. The server connects with database via Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). Databases collect information about how virtual or cloud infrastructure behaves and send analyses to web interfaces for cloud administrators to visualize and analyse. A virtual server is able to process commands through the cloud, which is then relayed back to the admin.

It is the operating system (OS) that is behind all of that interconnectivity. In addition to deploying your cloud management tools, the OS commands the different components that make up a cloud. The operating system needs to be compatible with whatever cloud you use, regardless of how unique it is. That’s why many open-source operating systems, such as Linux┬«, are used in the cloud.

What are the types of cloud management?

There are generally three basic types of cloud provisioning available to public cloud users:

User self-provisioning: Users can buy cloud services from providers directly, usually via a web form or console interface. Customers are charged a transaction fee per transaction.

Advanced provisioning: A pre-determinate number of resources is agreed upon in advance, and is prepared in advance. The customer pays fee each month or fee per year.

Dynamic provisioning: When the customer needs resources, the provider allocates them, then releases them when no longer necessary. A fee is charged based on usage.

Is cloud management same as cloud computing?

No, cloud management and cloud computing are never the same thing. Clouds are comprised of a bunch of cloud application, cloud services, storage, etc. Now these clouds build the rules on how these resources which are present in cloud are supposed to be managed. And cloud management has to abide these rules of cloud. So, cloud management decides how to make these cloud computing services available. Cloud management uses numerous software, governance and policies for this purpose.

Why choose cloud management?

Enterprise IT organizations can secure and optimize their cloud apps using cloud management software platforms. With cloud management software, IT organizations comply with laws and regulations, and disable data breaches and cyber-attacks in real time. Cloud management platforms (CPMs) aid IT organizations in achieving visibility and control of their cloud infrastructure by pulling data from every application in a hybrid cloud or multi-cloud environment.

What is a Cloud Management Platform (CMP)?

The Cloud Management Platform makes it possible to manage different cloud environments with features or modules bundled into one software application. A simple virtualisation management console cannot handle all public, private, and hybrid clouds. Enterprise CIOs are able to maintain control over a growing ecosystem of cloud computing technologies by implementing cloud management platform software solutions.

Cloud management platforms are software solutions that are characterized by providing an extensive set of APIs that allow them to pull data from virtually anywhere in the IT network. In an IT organization, CPM allows for the establishment of a standardized approach to governance and security on all of the organization’s cloud environments.

Cloud Management Platform is essentially a tool that sits above your IaaS for automatically organising and managing your infrastructure. The tool is aimed at IT administrators, CTOs, and Infrastructure Managers, which will give them a comprehensive perspective of their entire organization’s infrastructure and control over it.

Features of Cloud Management Platform:

Cloud Management Platforms are capable of performing a number of functionalities. For example, controlling access, cost optimization, automation of workflow, etc.

In the field of big data analytics- Cloud management platforms allow you to automatically generate computer logs from massive volumes of data collected by your applications. Each of your cloud environment’s log files contains information about every event that occurs, and analysing these files can help you discover errors, security vulnerabilities, and compliance issues.

What about CPM and compliance?

Cloud-based infrastructure and applications that don’t have cloud management platforms lose hundreds of hours each month normalizing, collecting and analyzing data. Your IT organization can consolidate log and performance data from a number of cloud service providers into one platform, monitor in real time and create customized reports using a cloud management platform.

In the field of security services- When you are running an enterprise IT environment dominated by the cloud, cloud management platforms can be a vital component of managing your IT assets’ security. Platforms that can manage the security status and vulnerability of your IT assets in cloud-dominated environments can be extremely useful. Cloud management platform is one such platform.
